Chapter Six
Ethan
Have you ever done something you knew you shouldn’t have, expecting one result, and being freaking blindsided when it resulted in the best possible scenario?
Yeah, me either.
Until this moment.
“I couldn’t help myself,” is one of the worst excuses I have ever heard, and yet…
Yet, here I am using it.
Before she showed up, I had been enjoying a quiet breakfast with the Warners. Pierce’s father, Phillip, brought up the time I convinced Pierce that Jaws was a real shark, spotted recently where we were swimming in the Puget Sound.
We had been having a good laugh at his expense, when this feeling of absolute contempt started to creep over me and was getting stronger with each passing moment.
Any sane man’s balls probably would have shriveled at all that energy focused on them, but nobody ever said I was sane. My chosen competitive sport is ironing, for crying out loud.
Instead I welcomed it, mentally prepared myself for all her justly aimed annoyance, and instantly lost all the words composed for our verbal battle at the sight of her.
Her eyes, usually the color of the forest, appeared as if the woods were ablaze with a raging fire. Her cheeks were tinged a faint red and flushed from stewing inside her head, and her usually full lips were pursed in distaste.
I couldn’t want her more.
How had anyone gone this long without fighting for this woman? Even in her fury, she appeared more like a vengeful goddess than anything.
I became curious would it would feel like to have that goddess purring instead of growling, and once that idea manifested, it grew roots and dug in stubbornly.
Kind of like the woman herself.
I submitted to her, let her drag me off to whatever room she could find to ream my ass, and chuckled at her selection.
I honestly don’t even think she noticed where we were, her focus entirely on me and the thoughts that had been swirling around inside her head. She opened her mouth, to tell me off I’m sure, and I just lost it.
I had to know.
My control snapped, not allowing me to entertain the idea that she might not accept my kiss. I had a hypothesis and I needed to test it, the answer I found more surprising than anything.
She was as equally curious about me as I am about her.
Not even a full twenty-four hours of my pranking and I’ve successfully gotten under her skin.
Too bad for her, she only got a quick scratch. It was just enough to sate her curiosity, if only for a moment, but not enough to explain away the undeniable chemistry we have.
She will need more, and I intend to stand back and wait for her to come and seek out the answers this time.
I’m ahead of schedule and pleased at the results I’ve received. That also means though, that there also leaves plenty of time for things to go wrong.
I have one more final prank, a grand finale if you will, and I still have a major hurdle to overcome before I can claim victory.
